Teachers’ Strike Tuesday 5th July

The National Union of Teachers are striking on 5th July in defence of terms and conditions and funding for education. There’s a link to their website here.

UNISON members in schools won’t be on strike but you can support the teachers by looking out for your local picket line (in Southend there will be pickets from 8am at Chase High School opposite Southend Hospital). The teachers are also having a regional rally in Chelmsford on the strike day, which assembles at 12 noon in Chelmsford High Street near the Shire Hall.

If you work in a school it may of course be closed on Tuesday. If not, then schools support staff should not be expected to provide cover for or take classes where this would normally be done by teachers who are taking action. Separate advice has gone to schools members but contact your UNISON rep if you need further advice about this.
